the 2 crucial elements for change

A Yogic principle

The two crucial elements for change, well, for anything really, according to yoga, are that we need energy & consciousness.

To make it really simple, we need:

  • to do something
  • & we need the mind, or awareness aspect, also.

These are 2 very important yogic principles.

When we just do, whatever, without awareness, or, without knowing what we're doing, well, we end up with scattered energy. We expend a lot of energy, or doing, which can be 'all over the place'.

This strangely enough doesn't create a good energy. We can lose a lot of energy, or doing-power, following this route. We get tired. And we simply really don't know what we're doing.

And if we put a lot of mental energy into something without actually doing anything concrete, then, nothing really happens. We are just imagining it.

I think that this is one of my 'issues' with greedily visualisating to get what we want, but not doing anything about it. No, that's not quite true: the greed aspect, that's what I'm not impressed with.

We need both elements: the physical act of doing, & the mental act of awareness.

Awareness, mindful

In the awareness area we can sort out what to do. This makes sense. We can keep our mind on what we're doing too whilst we carry out our plans.

They are a duo

How it works in yoga, is that we become aware that consciousness & energy work together, side by side.

When we allow this to become part of our life, this in turn creates a special energy inside of us, a  more enduring & relaxed energy.

We have a vast reservoir of energy inside of us, & with You Are Unique we are going to  learn how to let it flow, how to let it develop & grow.

Also, with these 2 aspects working side by side, our awareness increases. We get smarter. More 'knowing'. It creates a completion in the personality.

How to start

So, how do we start with this? Simply by us having relaxed focus on what ever's happening. Relaxed, not intense 'cutting edge' awareness. That's exhausting & silly.

If you're talking with someone, be aware of what you're saying, be aware of them. If you're, say, hammering, be aware of what your hammer is aiming for. Have some commonsense with this.

Some people get so focused on themselves that it all turns into 'it's all about me!'. Not a good look.

Whenever the awareness wanders, as it will, this is what happens & is how the mental aspect works, gently bring the awareness back to what you're doing. Don't try to stop your thoughts etc....we have a gazillion thoughts stirring around inside of us...we cannot stop them....let them flow, but.....have relaxed awareness on what is happening.

so, what is 'you are unique' about?

What is You Are Unique?

In a nutshell, it's about unfolding one's inner potential. And there are so many ways, so many levels, to do this. As a clairvoyant, healer & as a spiritual yoga teacher ( I have always approached any form of change by including a yogic point of view, which includes managing the mind & emotions.

But I totally believe that this is not all that is needed. We also need to look at:

  • our bodies with diet, exercise
  • our lifestyles - habits, time available
  • our personal needs....the list can be quite big.
If you're a working mother, your priorities & your time demands are quite different from someone whose children have 'left the nest'.

As a student, at any age...again time & priorities are different.

And then there's different times of our life, we have different financial needs & outlays. This needs to be taken into account too.

The basis of being unique

However I truly believe that we can do:

  • small disciplines
  • routines
  • habits
which can be:

  • easily incorporated into our life
  • that don't cost a lot of money
  • & that help transform our life.
I do know that now, lots of other people are blogging about the same things. But this is from me, from my own heart, from my own experience.

But principle of becoming unique

It has been found that just a 5% change will give a 20% increase in whatever area you're applying it.

1st step: A simple example would be to make a 5% change.......without calculating anything...let's just use 5% as a metaphor, not as an actual percentage, in these examples: what about cutting down your fat intake if that's an area that you need to work on.... you could look at 5% calculation, but easier still would be to perhaps see what a fat serving looks like. We're talking butter, oil, etc, here. So it's added fats, not the existing fats in food. If you look at your index finger or thumb (2 different measurements) from tip to the 1st knuckle from the top, & use 1 of these measurements as your added fat serve, immediately you'll be cutting down on fatty food intake. We're assuming here that's your problem, for the sake of this exercise.

2nd step: Keep going till it's a habit. Of course, that applies to any habit changes. It will take you about 3 weeks for each one, to become a way of life. So, getting back to the added fat thing, (our example).....for about 3 weeks you'll need to consistently keep it in mind.

And your weight will go down, you will have inadvertently triggered off your 20% increase....or, decrease of fat, but 20% improvement of health. You'll look & feel good.

To briefly sum up

So, you are unique is about:

  • looking & feeling good
  • having a better life
  • making small changes 1 at a time, as in the 5% rule
  • allowing about 3 weeks to settle the change into your life.
  • doing positive changes that fit easily into your life, that don't cost a lot of money.

I've found that putting these wee changes into place give me increased energy & improve my health & life.

Using small increments of change, as time goes on, you will 1 day wonder where the 'old' you went. The you who got tired, sick, will look & feel better, younger, more vital, have more energy.

Your uniqueness will be showing, shining.

Background to You Are Unique

When I was in my mid twenties, I found a book written in 1976, by a woman who had rejuvenated herself. She had turned 40, and looked and felt old.

As a former psychologist, she felt that she could investigate how, what, and why, this had happened. And the book was what she did find worked for her, to grow more youthful, happier, healthier, and return to work as a psychologist.

This was in an era where 35 was "old", and women had to overcome a lot of obstacles to have a job. Strange to imagine, now, but true.

This book, which I still have, totally inspired me. I realised that you didn't have to do much to look and feel better, have a better life, and not race into old age.

Even though I have since done many things with my life, that book still provides the framework. It was amazing. Plus, she used yoga as her fitness, and body toning. And I had been doing yoga for a few years at this stage.

A difficult time in life

In the 1988 I had just had my 3rd child, after a gap of 17 years. I had no job, no income, no home, hardly any possessions, and was a single mother. I was also living in a difficult situation whilst I awaited some welfare aid, which took it's time coming!

I had worked 24/7 (no income) during the pregnancy setting up a company with some friends, & I left the job 2 days after the birth, as I had a bad feeling that it was not good to keep going with the company. Time proved me right.

So I wrote a course

But I had to do something!! I am not suited to doing nothing. So, I wrote a course called 'You are Unique'. Which I suppose was a strange thing to do.

But I had a lot of specialised yoga knowledge & wanted to use that knowledge to help women have a better life. I was teaching private yoga classes, had taught natal throughout my pregnancy, & I had a few clients who were learning the deeper more mystical aspects of yoga.

I was also meeting a lot of women whose lives were difficult & unbalanced, & I felt that I could write a course, based on yoga, and inspired by the above-mentioned book, that would help all women have a more meaningful & happier life.

I wrote the course, whilst baby slept. She was not the sort of baby who believed in sleeping!

The first course was 10 weeks, the 2nd was 8 weeks & I was looking at upmarketing it. You know, going into an area of professional & wealthier women, although my target market was actually the woman who was not so affluent. Neither was I & I could really relate to their situations.

Anyway, there were unethical difficulties from a few associates regarding my course, so I withdrew it.

But I did meet up with some of the women who had done the course, and I swear that I did not recognise them at first. They had changed so much, they had become

  • healthier
  • happier
  • younger
  • more individual
I was so overcome seeing how much these women had grown.

Revamped course

I did do the course again. This time, the students clamoured for me to teach them only what they wanted!! Which was rather strange, but I did comply, & everyone loved it. We did the course as 3 workshops:

  • Image
  • Abundance
  • Manifestation.
Different & quite charming.

How I decided to blog the course

Recently, I decided to clean out my life. Physically. As in a Big-Biff-Out. You can guess what I found. Yep. You Are Unique....several workshops of hand-outs, plus Image, Abundance, Manifestation.

As I read everything, I realised that everything was still current. Strangely. I wrote them all before positive thinking books like The Secret, before we had a plethora of exercise, yoga, or diet, books.

"I've kept all this for a reason" was my thought. "But what shall I do with it?"

I know. I'll blog it & expand on it. So I did.

But I will tell you, that 1976 book still influences me and what, how and why, I write.
