Historically, tidying oneself up, it really works
I know that this can sound superficial, especially when we are trying to restore ourselves after an illness, accident, sorrow. But.... based on something that happened during and after World War 2, and of course, my own personal experiences, I really feel that it helps to have a scrub up and make ourselves look nice, every day. I know that it has always worked for me.
It's using, like, reverse psychology. During World War 2, women in Great Britain (where a LOT of bombing went on), were encouraged to make themselves look good, to keep one's morale up. Then after, when The Allies were doing air drops of food and supplies over Europe, women asked for red lipstick. Because, as we start to feel better about ourselves, life, have hope, we want to also make ourselves look better.
To my reasoning, if we apply the same desire of wanting to look good, and those women they wanted to look and feel better about themselves because of what they had been through and were now free of, then it will have a similar effect for us. We will start to feel better. More hopeful.
As part of restoring, what we do on a regular basis, is, I feel, what gives satisfying results. And I'm sure that I'm not alone with this.
Sometimes I sound rather superficial, however, I do know that even when I was so sick for years, the days when I had gotten up, put a small amount of makeup on, brush my hair, and wear something reasonably nice, that my well being was a lot better than when I didn't bother. I'm more cheerful, and strangely, more tidy and more productive when I do have a wee scrub up. For me, it really works.
Take it easy
Of course, just a shower and hair brush might be your scrub up. When you're a bit more restored, the shower might be more thorough, like scrubbing with a brush or those shower gloves, and some nice soap or body wash. It really does help to just do what you can initially.
Dress nicely.
Even when I was really sick, there was no way that I was going to slob around in a dressing gown or tatty old gear. That sort of dressing just makes me a tad depressed. I dress very casually, but I'm tidy with it. A neat little package. Where I live, and the circles that I mainly move in, women wear tights, jeans, flip flops (jandals) in summer. We don't have big fancy hairdos, nor Kardashian-type looks with makeup. So I do fit in quite okay. It doesn't have to cost a lot of money to tidy ourselves up each day.
Even during covid, when I was alone, I still made an effort. For me. Just to feel good about me.
Budget beauty and grooming makes it easy
I am the queen of budget beauty and dressing. Because I simply do not believe in spending a lot of money on looking good. I do think that the doing of tidying oneself up is more important than expensive clothes and products.
Having said this, my favourite product that I buy for my body, is an inexpensive coconut oil with rose essence in it. I get it from a local dairy. I often use it to remove makeup, too. A young granddaughter says that I smell of flowers.
