Storm havoc

Extremely very stormy weather here in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

The second recent major storm. A cyclone. Whipped through our North Island. Massive floods, people losing homes, vehicles, animals, crops, livelihoods.

There has been a lot of extreme flooding, land slips, roads disappearing in landslides. A lot of homes now uninhabitable. Thousands of people displaced. Luckily we are a nation of people who help one another. We're also fortunate to have Social Welfare which is immediately available for those in need. And a Government which has responded very quickly with aid. And practical help.

Who would have thought that this would happen? Here.

These two extremes of storms, close together, are in our summer. And these catastrophes are due to global warming. It's a worry. And sad. So sad. We all have family and friends in the worst hit areas whom we cannot contact: they have no internet, no power, in many cases no food nor water. No road access. No clean clothes. Nothing.

I truly don't know what else to say. Words are so trite here.

Kia kaha, everyone.

  1. I had heard the North Island was hit with a massive storm. I’m so sorry. It is fortunate that you have a strong safety net. The same cannot be said if the United States. Don’t get me started on global warming. Grrr. Hugs.

  2. I'm so sorry to hear about the storms and the cyclones and the damage they have caused. The weather is going crazy just about everywhere; parts of Los Angeles County are under a blizzard warning!
