Another year

2026 is well underway

A number one year. 2 + 2+ 6 = 10

                                     1 + 0 = 1

Isn't it so easy to work out what overall year it is. This is not a personal number year, it's a general one. A one year usually signals new beginnings.

New beginnings

So what would be your new beginning? It's nice to say it in a few words. Mine are Simplify, and Restore.

Why simplify?

For me, it's basically that my life has become too crowded and too complicated. My wee home too cluttered. My routines have mysteriously now got too much in them. I've been fitting too much into my life. It's just too overwhelming for me. So, simplify it must be.

First, declutter

I have already started with The Great Declutter. Of stuff. Somehow extra stuff has made it's way into my home. Slowly, and somewhat sneakily, over a few years. (who did this?! Surely not... me?)

Because I'm a very visual person, having too much stuff around the place, catches my eye, so to speak, which disturbs my concentration and uses up energy. I actually find this quite tiring. You might not be like this. I know people who artistically crowd out their spaces, and it all looks rather lovely. But that just doesn't work for me.

Decluttering is always my first step in Simplifying.

I used to always have A Bag On The Go for the op shop, but somehow....yep, it got discontinued. It's now been resumed. I find that this is the easiest way to declutter. A small amount, a small area, cupboard, whatever, at a time. Into The Bag, and off to the op shop. My very easy and uncomplicated method.

Why restore? Yet again

This might be hard to believe, but I have spent most of my life trying to restore my health and energy. Even when I seemed to be very healthy. The whole saga is here. An undiagnosed physical problem. My Doctor was horrified when he read the hospital notes about the real cause of all of my health problems, which all started in my twenties, followed by me often getting mysteriously sick, for no foreseeable reason. Followed by trying so hard to restore my health, fitness, you name it.

I now finally have the opportunity to properly restore health, after two operations for the same thing, and a third for something similar.

First things first

So, what am I looking at for restoration of health?

The absolute first things that I did after each operation, were sleep, drink more water (I actually prefer coffee !!), and something that I saw online a few years ago, which all of the "influencers" and "knowledgeable" are now touting.

Whenever and wherever you're sitting, put your feet on the ground. Now move one heel at a time up and down, doing alternately as though you're walking. Calf muscle does a tiny (or more if you want) contraction as you lift the heel up.

It turns out that one of the calf muscles is called The Little (or is it The Second?) Heart. We can do this if we're not able to walk far, and it keeps our circulation going as well as being great for the actions of our heart.

I've told so many about this, yet I doubt that very many people have actually done it. I still do it. A lot.

Walk your talk

I'm a long-time yoga teacher, so of course this is what I do for fitness, well-being and restoration. However, what I actually do is way different from what is generally taught nowadays. What I truly do for poses is from my very early years learning yoga, more than fifty years ago. (yes, I'm ancient!)

First from a western swami, Karmayogi, who taught a mix of Yoga from Sivananda Ashram in India, and advanced spiritual techniques, called kriyas, learnt in America, from one of Parmahansa Yogananda's earliest disciples. I know!!! Aren't I so lucky to have learnt from Karmayogi.

I always, absolutely always, start with simple flexibilities that I learnt off him. They are described here. The thing is, they get our body and our energy moving. Firstly, I do these early each morning to restore, revive, and then just keep on doing them almost every day. They take about five minutes.

I do the main breathing technique that he taught, too. It keeps our brains ticking over very well.

The other great yoga influence was Melissa Jones, she is retired now, but was a fantastic and well known naturopath. Melissa said the she did some yoga in the mornings, and some at nights. This made sense to me when we're living in society. It is doable.

I do a short series of seated and lying poses, for glandular health, and general well-being. I keep it simple. ten minutes. This is my next step, when I'm up to managing it.

Now, what I've described is my starting point for restoring. I know that it works. I add on as I get fitter.

to summarise

* keep it very short and simple to start with

* what ever you choose to do, do it regularly at roughly the same times every day. Believe it or not, our body starts to prepare for exercise beforehand when it knows that we'll be doing it at certain times.

Anyways, enough of me. What do you do for restoring health? Anything special?
